Ashley is studying the genetic mechanisms of PrrF sRNA regulation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with a specific emphasis on a putative bacterioferritin encoded by PA4880. The goals of Ashley’s work are to 1) understand how iron and PrrF affect PA4880 expression, 2) determine if PrrF regulation of PA4880 and other PrrF targets is conserved across P. aeruginosa strains, and 3) determine the impact of PA4880 on P. aeruginosa iron homeostasis and virulence.
